30 Days of Thanks (Day 2)

Today is ELECTION DAY … I’m thankful for the freedom we have in our democracy Republic (actually a federal constitutional republic at that!) to vote, making the United States a representative democracy.

The big deal here in Missouri is Secretary of State Robin Carnahan (D) going against Roy Blunt (R) for incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Kit Bond’s seat since he is not seeking re-election.  Robin Carnahan is endorsed by President Obama.  Roy Blunt just has a solid record as former Secretary of State of Missouri and serving in the House of Representatives as well as a run as the President of his alma mater Southwest Baptist Seminary here in Missouri.  He’s also the father of our former governor Matt Blunt, who is ironically only 10 days younger than me and will be celebrating his 40th birthday on November 20.  He and his wife just had their second baby about 2 weeks after I had Miriam, but they had a boy (their first son was born while he was still governor).  Matt Blunt, a United States Naval Academy grad, was Missouri’s governor from Jan 2005-Jan 2009 (and a Reservist while serving as governor), but he did not seek re-election.  He was the youngest governor in the United States at the time, and the second youngest governor to be elected ever.

So, there you have it – some good Missouri trivia … I’ll let you guess who I’m voting for!!  🙂
