Joining Sandra today:
The Weather:::

hot!  probably mid-90s … I love it!  🙂

On my reading pile:::

Another one of my Cat Who… books by Lilian Jackson Braun
Ready to delve into Introverts in the Church by Adam McHugh
as well as The Heart of Homeschooling by _____ Klicka.

On my tv:::

kids are all 3 watching Curious George on PBS right now 🙂

On the menu for this week:::

Definitely Chicken Divan (casserole) for my husband tonight.
Thinking simple summer meals this week …

On my to do list:::

need to “clean sweep” my living room, dining room, and kitchen.  We went “gung-ho” on the kids’ rooms and kind of stalled out – although we have been busy.

Homemaking Tips:::

I recently made my own dishwasher powder out of borax, baking soda and kosher salt (measurements off internet recipe) – and it did NOT do a good job at all 😦
I went back to my commercial liquid dishwasher gel … and the dishes are SO MUCH cleaner!
Anyone know if it is recommended to use liquid or powder in the dish washer???  or have a GOOD homemade recipe for soap?

Looking around the house:::

Fairly neat – kitchen needs a once-over … but bathrooms are clean – for now.  After Operation Laundry Mountain was tackled this weekend, I hope to NEVER be that far behind on laundry again … and I hope to do one load more often than 50 (seemingly) loads in one day.  :(~

From the camera:::
went to the local pool/water park for the first time this summer (or ever, actually, since it was built at the beginning of last summer):

On my prayer list:::
my husband’s job:  he has 4 open applications out there – and no news on any of them, good or bad!  We are waiting on a call-back from a HR specialist who is supposedly responsible for his paperwork for the job he actually interviewed for (in mid-MAY!!!!!!!!!!) – but we’ve been warned these agences move sllllllllooooooooowwwwww (as in 2-4 months before they hire someone!!).
for so many who have such a heavy load to bear in illness or circumstances or just tough situations in their families.  praying for much grace for all of them, God knows who they are.

Bible verse, Devotional:::

  1. You love this weather? Ugh! I'm sweltering every time I step outside, which I have to do every 4 hours or so to keep the garden watered. I.hate.heatwaves.

    Here it is:Homemade dishwashing detergent:2 c. Arm and Hammer Washing soda1 c. Borax1 c. Baking soda4 pkts. unsweeted Koolaid, lemonade flavor (to give the dishes the nice lemon scent)…Vinegar (white)Mix first 4 ingredients well. Put in container of choice. Keep the rinse aid compartment filled w/ vinegar. Use 1 Tbsp. of powdered mixture per load. Add a little vinegar to the powdery substance (the vinegar will bubble b/c of the bak. soda, but don't be alarmed.) Mix it a bit, and run the dishwasher as normal. (I add the liquid to the powder in the soap compartment of the dishwasher).I tried using white vinegar instead of Jet Dry, and it works ok, but the dishes still feel "stripped." Commercial liquid and Jet Dry leave a nice finish on the dishes, but they are expensive.No, I would not AT ALL use dishwashing liquid, like Dawn or Polmoliv, in the dishwasher. Too many suds. You'll ruin your dishwasher.

    I have a good recipe for dishwasher cleaner — borax, baking soda, washing soda. You can probably google it online. It works very well, really cleans the dishwasher and cleans the dishes,too. You need Jet Dry, though, to put a nice finish on the dishes, because the homemade stuff kind of strips them. I'll try to get you instructions.
