HHMwinter

Joining Sandra today for HHM.

THE WEATHER:::

It is 24 degrees outside and cloudy … wish it would snow …

RIGHT NOW I AM:::

Drinking my 2nd or 3rd cup of coffee (I just keep topping off my cup so I lost count!) and eating a yummy Lebkuchen (Gingerbread) cookie that I got from Aldi’s.  I love their selection of pseudo-German Christmas items, which is about as close as it gets.  I’m also missing Germany at Christmas time!

THINKING:::

about Christmas.  It is hard to be in the spirit when things are so uncertain financially … but I know we can have a nice, inexpensive Christmas anyway.  In fact, I’m hoping to think up some more meaningful things to do and give, which will keep the focus on Jesus and not the commercialism and STUFF.

ON MY READING PILE:::

Back to reading my Lilian Jackson Braun Cat Who series … nothing like familiar characters in a happier, make-believe place to take my mind of the weightier matters of life right now!

ON MY TV:::

Christmas movies!!  And for family movie night, on Saturday, we watched HARVEY (starring Jimmy Stewart) – the kids liked it a lot … I love the old classic movies!

ON THE MENU:::

simple things:  tacos, spaghetti, ranch chicken, mexican potato stew

ON MY TO-DO LIST:::

continue my cleaning-out, which is an on-going ordeal.  I took a trunk-full of STUFF to Goodwill again last week, but there is SO MUCH MORE to get rid of!!  I also need to tackle the deeper cleaning like that spider webs by the ceiling and the dust that is building up.  Sad smile

HOMEMAKING TIPS:::

I am BLANK.

LOOKING AROUND MY HOUSE:::

Big kids are home-schooling.  Daniel and MiMi are watching cartoons and reading books – yes, simultaneously.

FROM THE CAMERA:::

My littlest one “home-schooling”

ON MY PRAYER LIST:::

My husband’s job situation.  He actually was selected for a local job last week – but because it is a gov’t service job, when his name was forwarded to Human Resources, they had to offer the job to a disabled veteran who also applied instead.  It’s a bizarre points system they use:  Daniel gets 5 points for being a veteran towards his qualification for the job; but the other person gets 10 points for being a disabled veteran.  While I’m all for supporting disabled veterans, I can’t help but be extremely disappointed.   The boss of the section wanted Daniel for the position … but by the rules, the other guy gets the job offer first.  Sad smile  (there is still hope that the disabled veteran will turn down the job for some reason … but first of all, a government service job is hard to get, and second, it is a GREAT job, even if it is in the middle-of-no-where, Missouri).

    I’m not trying to be impertinent or tacky, but my first thought was, “He is a disabled veteran!” 🙂 I know the recent fall doesn’t count, but my sometimes-improper brain makes little funnies that I have to share! It’s not the first time today I should have probably just kept quiet.

    The Lord knows. He knew about the veteran. He knows about Daniel. He knows. My post today illustrates how “hands on” the Lord can really be and we often only see it in hind-sight. I pray your hind-sight comes soon! I know that would give you great relief, but until then, have faith!! He is working on your behalf. I’m still praying.

    I find that so unfair too Conny. I am all for giving everyone a fair chance and equal opportunity, but that is not right 😦

    As for Christmas, I’m giving quite a few handmade gifts this year, easy things like dishcloths/washcloths, scarves and hats for the kids, mug cozies, things like that. They’re from the heart and much cheaper.

    Hope you have a great week 🙂

    That just doesn’t seem fair! I know the disabled Vets need jobs, but it should be a job fitting the person equally! I’m decorating today and may actually get the tree up.
