On Sunday our family visited a church nearby. We actually “knew” several people there already: the parents-in-law of a friend from our church in MO go to this church, and they had us over for supper on Saturday night. Also, our church in MO supports 2 missionaries out of this church. One of the missionary wives was there – and she was a great help to me, showing me where the kids could go to their classes and the youth group on Sunday night, marching me all over the campus, despite her being 6 months pregnant.
The format at this church was different than what we are used to – but it was good and we enjoyed the music, the sermon, and the people. The kids liked it too. They also run a large Christian school, which we visited and toured on Monday morning. We are still deciding on the kids’ future schooling, but this seems like a good option if we become home-school drop-outs. We also attended the school’s basketball games on Monday night, and Annie-Belle and Drew already had “friends” from the youth meeting to sit with and talk to.
MiMi enjoyed her little classes on Sunday morning and evening … and she is loving all the “shopping” we are doing to get Dan all the stuff he needs for his apartment. She also approves of the play place at the local mall.
I personally am loving that the mall, all kinds of stores (Aldi, Goodwill, Hobby Lobby, Target, Walmart, etc etc etc) are close by and easily accessible – and we have so far come across 3 Chick-Fil-A locations!!!! We are getting used to dealing with a little more traffic that comes with city living … although Northwest Arkansas does not FEEL like a city – there are lots of hills and trees and green that make it feel more rural.
I am thankful for the flexibility of home-schooling right now – that we can do school in Dan’s apartment these days we are here.
Dan began orientation at the Veteran’s Hospital on Monday … and right now is in the midst of vast amounts of paperwork and regulations and policies of the Veteran’s Administration. Tomorrow (Wed), he actually will begin training more for his actual job on a Nursing Services ward in the hospital. Sadly, he’ll then switch to 2nd shift soon, but we are praying he can move into day shift some time soon. It would be much better for family life. However, we are just thankful he has A JOB!!! It has been a LONG wait … but we are very much at peace now, believing God has moved us here.
Wednesday morning, the kids and I will head back to Missouri to pick up our dog from her sitter and check on our cats … and work on getting our house ready to put on the market.
Dan will be home on Saturday, so this week we won’t be feeling the separation as much as we will in the future. But in any case, we’ve come this far, we can handle whatever else comes our way, with God’s help!
