Surprise! Surprise!

I have shared (probably ad nauseam) some about what all we, as a family, have dealt with these the last 2 years … uncertainties, tough decisions, unemployment, emotional ups and downs, Dan’s injury, hours of praying and discussing, waiting, planning for a major transition, and all the while holding on to HOPE and FAITH that God’s timing is perfect.  The conclusion was that we, as a family, have to move on … 225 miles down the road from here.

The one constant (besides God’s goodness), a source of the familiar and of encouragement during these times, has been good friends and the relationships that my family has built.  Even while there were periods of isolation lately, my kids especially needed their friends.  A true and trusted friend is something of great value … and we are blessed to have a marvelous support system, grown with love in these last 11 years.

Kind of like a scene from the movie It’s a Wonderful Life, sometimes it takes a crisis to reveal who really supports you … and for our family, those people showed up at our local park this Saturday.  That outpouring of love – intended more for our kids than for me – meant the world to us all.

Here are a few pictures from the surprise party for our kids this weekend planned by some very good friends.  It was a perfect symbol of our homeschool year combined with relationships from our years at the Christian school that my kids had attended since they were 4 years old!

So, there was volleyball …

Water balloons were launched & thrown, water guns were brought out, and buckets of water dumped… and a lot of people ended up soaked …

Parents watched … and ate and chatted and were entertained by the kids’ antics.

and we just “hung out” …

Until a sudden rain shower broke up the party.  And we all packed up and went home feeling very happy.  This is a memory our family will definitely be taking to Arkansas with us – a reminder of the people who made our Missouri years worth being here.
